Top make up trends at the 2014 Cannes film festival

It is the time of the year again for the famed Cannes Film Festival that attracts celebrities from all over flock to France to attend.  The red carpet showcases  the best of fashion and is a powerhouse for trend spotting.  These are my favourite make up trends spotted this year on the red carpet.

White eyes like Suki Waterhouse

White eyeshadow/eyeliner is a fun and fresh trend and is great to illuminate your skin on those slightly dull days. White is a very tricky colour to wear, especially in make up. However, if done correctly it can look amazing! The easiest way to wear this trend is to draw with a white liner just above the usual black liner if you not too keen on the eye shadow idea of it all.  White liner/shadow highlights and emphasizes the eye, especially if you have brown eyes.

Tangerine lips like Lea Seydoux

Tangerine tango wasn’t just colour of the year last year; it continues this year as orange on the lips is very trendy on red carpets. Orange lipstick provides a vibrant, more youthful alternative to the classic red lip. If you have a warm skin tone (yellow undertones), choose a yellow based orange lipstick or a cool skin tone (red undertones), you should choose a coral or red based orange. If orange lipstick is too bold for you, try an orange gloss to showcase the look without being risky.

Smouldering eyes like Karlie Kloss

A trend that has been around for years and is likely to continue for long into the future is the smouldering eye. Dramatic eye make up never disappoints on the red carpet and goes perfectly with haute couture designer wear. Smouldering eyes are also an easy look to do and can translate easily from night to day with a switch of colour palettes.  Choose the right colour palette to compliment your eyes. This is a trend that suits everyone.

Heavy black liner like Blake Lively

Heavy black eyeliner is a difficult look to perfect if you don’t have a steady hand, but once you’ve mastered it you will love it! If you are having difficulty getting straight lines with a liquid liner, either make a dotted line first and trace over it, or use an eye pencil which makes it much easier to achieve the perfect line to frame the eyes.
